Restaurant Review
Little Capo
Will and I had the rare night off from bath and bed with the children, a time for us to actually feel like grown ups. We were invited to Ella Fletcher’s website launch party which was held at Jamaica Yard. We had never been before and it was a really cool space and I’d definitely consider it for any parties.
Ella’s evening was fab and it was so nice to see all her supporters there to celebrate all the hard work she’s put in over the last few years. She’s really great so worth checking out her ceramics if you haven’t already.
By chance, Jamaica Yard happened to be across the road from a restaurant that we had been recommended earlier that week so when we left, we casually popped across the road to see if they had space for us at Little Capo. I think we got the last two seats in the place! It such a buzz to it and a really great vibe. We had a chat with the owner who says they have a good mix of locals and diners from further afield.
For those who haven’t heard of Little Capo, it opened in November 2024 on Howe Street, and serves Italian tapas style food with a twist. We were sat up at the bar, which I always quite like if its just two of you as you can see what’s going on, have a few chats with the team there and get some good tips about the menu.
Will and I are generally a bit boring when it comes to menu choice, but at the same time if you pick the more basic dishes and they are done well, then we take it as a sign that overall the menu is of high quality if they are putting the detail into the simple dishes.
So to start with we have their ‘House-Baked Foccacia’, ‘Zucchini Fritte, Aoili’ and their ‘Calamari Fritte, with Salsa Verde’. Wow were they good. The calamari in particular was delicious and the salsa verde, we used for the focaccia as well as it was so good.
For main course, I had the ‘Risotto, Asparagus, Scamorza’, which was an asparagus risotto, but with a smoked cheese throughout it, and while it was very rich, it was also so flavoursome and warming. Will had the ‘Flat Iron Steak, rocket and parmesan’ and ordered a side of ‘crispy potatoes, with rosemary salt’. You can’t go wrong with this dish, but it was cooked to perfection and was so tasty. I have to say I made us share so that we could both have a bit of everything.
We were so full that we didn’t manage a pudding, but it was the best meal we’ve had in a long time, and I do keep telling people to go there as it was a great restaurant all round. I can’t wait to go back!
