Celebrate Women

Female Founded Companies

International Women’s Day was on Sunday 8th March so I thought it would be worth celebrating a few local businesses whose female founders are bossing it!

Up at our office in Rosemains Steading, we are surrounded by fabulous women who keep us, and all the business going here everyday. Worth highlighting in the Preston Hall team are the wonderful Barbara Playfair, Gemma Tully, Kate Danesh, Sandra Macdonald, and Sharon Crawford. We can’t thank them enough for all that they do.

Right, onto those local companies:

Tyningham Candles

Ellie started Tyninghame Candles when she wanted to handmake a gift for a friend. The school holidays can seem quite long to a teacher so she started to experiment and a few years later she is running this magical business whose ethos is all about brining joy into your home no matter what time of year it is. Her candles are bold and brightly coloured, you can’t miss them.

Laura Thomas

Having moved back to Scotland from New Zealand, Laura noticed a huge difference in the availability of plant based products. She set about creating a company that offered natural and luxurious products for the home whilst also being kind to the planet and healthy for your body. With a store in North Berwick, and supplying hotels in the UK, Sweden and Iceland, Laura has built up an amazing following.

LAW Design Studio

Founded by Gill in 2019, LAW Fashion’s ethos has sustainability at its core. The majority of products are ‘made to order’ to reduce waste, the materials used are natural, and when you’ve decided to part with your product, it can gain a new life by being offered into the LAW Circular System where somebody else can purchase the product. Gillian has built a successful business that works around her family life and hopes that as it grows, the team will also support women in a similar stage of life.

Check them out and celebrate what they do!
